You Truly are Wonderful !Look what you've done!!! You donated hundreds of toothbrushes, toothpaste, boxes of children and infants Tylenol/Motrin, soaps, shampoos, Band-Aids, tooth brushes, hospital supplies, beautiful clothes, shoes, and small toys and lots of money! Most of the children in the orphanage will never be adopted due to chronic illnesses/handicaps or other reasons. There are handicapped adults and teenagers that live permanently at this hospital/orphanage called Hermano Del Pedro in Antigua Guatemala. They are heavily supported by the local people, which themselves are quite poor. We actually heard of the hospital from a woman related to John Diego’s Foster Care family. She volunteered there feeding the babies. She says they have nothing, but they all share what little they have!! 250 Sheet Sets!!!!!! Guess what? You all donated more than 3 thousand dollars for the Hermano Pedro Orphanage/Hospital in Antigua!!!! Unbelievable. This was perfect, as it allowed me to purchased 250 full sets (cover sheet, bottom sheet and pillow cases) of top quality hospital sheets from a medical linen wholesaler in Quincy for $3,008!! how fantastic is that? I also received a nice discount on the shipping from the Guatemalan Courier service as they are from the town where the hospital is and know it very well. Everyone helped us along the way including the men who were re-roofing our house and are from Guatemala. They called the hospital to confirm that I was purchasing the correct sheets and have offered to help me out if I go to visit Guatemala.
So... we packed up all the medicine, clothes, toys, medical equipment, toothbrushes, toothpaste, and the SHEETS, and it has all been shipped directly to Madre Teresa at the hospital via Guatemalan Courier Service. Just to let you know, she personally signs for all the boxes and I get her signed receipt. This ensures that the supplies go directly to them. It is difficult for people to send direct donations because they are stolen in the regular mail or the fees they must pay through FedEx or other package handlers are not worth it. The generosity that all of you have shown will enable these gifts and supplies to go directly into the hands of these precious children and handicapped adults. Thanks to you, everyone there will be sleeping on new sheets tonight. YOU ARE THE BEST! Many of you could not make it to the party - and we missed you... but many of you did come in the torrential rain and we still had a fantastic time! You know I can't possibly begin to express how thankful I am for all your support. I am stunned by your generousity and continue to feel blessed that you are all in our lives.
